TalkToYou Terms of Service

1. Who we are
TalkToYou is an online language education service operated by Steam Engine Co., Ltd. ((주)스팀엔진) ("Company"), a company registered in the Republic of Korea (Business Registration No. 613-86-03845; 4F, 8-22, Cheongna Emerald-ro 102beon-gil, Seo-gu, Incheon, Republic of Korea; contact: contact@steamengine.kr).
2. What we provide
We provide live 1:1 Korean language lessons via video call with native Korean tutors. Video calls take place in the Zoom application, which you need to install on your device. Lessons are booked in blocks of 10 minutes and are taught as guided conversation: your tutor talks with you on everyday topics, teaches the expressions Koreans actually use, and corrects you as you go.
TalkToYou is an educational service only. It is not a dating, matchmaking, companionship, or social introduction service. Lessons are Korean language practice with trained tutors.
3. Eligibility
You must be 18 years or older to use the service. By signing up you confirm your date of birth is accurate. We may suspend accounts that misrepresent age.
4. Credits, bookings & refunds
- Lessons are paid for with credits. You buy credits in packs on our website or, in our iOS app, through the Apple App Store. Some packs, and your first purchase, may include bonus credits; the exact number is shown before you buy. The number of credits a lesson costs is shown before you confirm the booking. Credits are tied to your account and cannot be transferred or exchanged for cash except as described below.
- Purchased credits and any bonus credits that come with them are valid for 6 months from the date of purchase. Bonus credits given for a first purchase are available once per person; creating a new account after deleting one does not qualify for them again. We email you before credits expire. Expired credits are not refunded and cannot be extended or reissued.
- Cancel or reschedule free of charge up to 24 hours before a lesson. The credits you used are returned to your balance with their original expiry date.
- Cancellations within 24 hours and no-shows are not refunded, in credits or in cash.
- If a tutor fails to attend a lesson, the credits for that lesson are returned in full.
- Cash refunds: while your purchased credits are still valid, you may ask us to refund the ones you have not used. We refund them at the price you paid per credit, less a 20% administrative fee. Free credits and bonus credits have no cash value and are not refunded.
- Credits bought through the Apple App Store (in-app purchase in our iOS app) are sold by Apple. Refund requests for those purchases are handled by Apple under Apple's refund policy, and when Apple approves a refund the remaining credits from that pack are removed from your account. The 20% administrative fee above does not apply to App Store purchases.
- To request a refund, email us at the address in Section 1. Approved refunds are paid to your original payment method.
5. Code of conduct
To keep lessons safe and enjoyable for everyone, you agree not to: (a) request tutors' personal contact information or off-platform communication; (b) request or propose in-person meetings; (c) engage in sexual, harassing, discriminatory, or abusive speech or behavior; (d) record or distribute lesson content; (e) send gifts or money to tutors outside the platform.
Violations result in a warning; repeated or severe violations result in termination of your account, and any remaining credits are forfeited without refund. Tutors may end a lesson immediately in case of serious misconduct, and the credits for that lesson are not returned.
We have zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive behavior. Messages or conduct that violate this section may be removed, and the account responsible may be suspended or terminated immediately. You can report a message or block a tutor from the message screen; reports are reviewed by the TalkToYou team.
6. Session recording
Sessions are recorded for quality assurance and safety. Recordings are accessible only to authorized Company staff, are never shared with third parties, and are deleted within 90 days.
7. Intellectual property
Lesson materials and lesson guides are the Company's property, licensed to you for personal learning use only.
8. Disclaimers
We do not guarantee specific learning outcomes. The service is provided "as is" to the extent permitted by law. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable consumer law, including mandatory consumer protections of your country of residence.
9. Termination
You may stop using the service at any time; refunds follow Section 4. You can delete your account yourself from the Account screen in the app or on the website. Before deleting, cancel any upcoming lessons; when the account is deleted, any remaining credits are forfeited (we tell you this before you confirm), your data is handled as described in our Privacy Policy, and social sign-in connections (for example Sign in with Apple) are revoked. We may suspend or terminate accounts for conduct violations or fraud.
10. Governing law & disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Korea. Mandatory consumer protection rules of your habitual residence remain unaffected. Disputes will first be addressed through good-faith discussion via contact@steamengine.kr.
11. Changes
We may update these terms; material changes will be notified by email 14 days in advance.
